Useful even when the animation stops

Clear user experience

Expressive motion can invite exploration. The content, navigation and next step still need to work without it.

Give motion a job

Motion can help someone notice a relationship, understand a transition or become curious enough to explore. It can also compete with the very text a visitor is trying to read. A useful starting question is simple: what does this movement help someone understand? If the answer is atmosphere alone, it should not carry essential information or decide whether someone can continue.

A spatial homepage can be an interesting entrance, but a visitor may be looking for just one answer: what is this product and how far along is it? That answer needs to be available in words and ordinary links without first learning a new way to move around a page.

Check the experience without effects

Try the page with reduced motion enabled and with only a keyboard. Is focus visible? Can you reach a product description and return? Can an opened view be closed without losing your place? These checks expose different problems from a screenshot of an impressive opening scene. They do not alone prove accessibility across the site, but they produce concrete observations to act on.

Also check what happens when a visual effect does not load. Headings, product descriptions and the contact route should remain understandable. Essential information should not appear only through hovering, colour or movement. Clear text is part of the experience, not its second-class substitute.

Keep the meaning consistent

The product’s purpose, development stage and limitations should mean the same thing in an expressive view and a readable description. The same applies to Finnish and English: neither version should promise more. Finally, ask a reader to explain what the product does and what they would do next. If answering requires a commentary from the creator, the content or route needs more work. A strong visual identity reinforces that understanding rather than replacing it.
